Imaging exams will typically result in two bills:

  • Advanced Radiology for the professional interpretation of the exam by a Radiologist, the reading fee
  • The Imaging Center or Facility for the technical component, the actual scan itself

The Advanced Radiology billing office handles the billing for the professional portion of the imaging services provided by the Radiologists of Advanced Radiology at various Hospitals and Clinics across Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

The Advanced Radiology billing office also handles the billing for the technical portion of the imaging services provided by Advanced Imaging Center, LLC, and Metro MRI Center Limited Partnership.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • It is important for patients to prepare for their imaging appointments and understand their responsibilities:
    • Patients must provide their imaging center, facility, or office with complete health insurance insurance information to ensure proper billing and payment; this includes:
    • Insurance card, name and address of the insurance plan, claims payer, the ID and group numbers, and the name of the subscriber
    • Patients are responsible for finding out if their health insurance plan requires any kind of authorization or notification prior to exams, and for contacting their health insurance company(ies) to find out what information is needed to obtain the needed authorizations or determinations
    • Insurance companies may call this process any of the following: pre-authorization, pre-certification, prior notification, pre-notification, RQI*, and/or pre-determination*
    • *RQI and pre-determination require submission and review of medical records, and can often take longer than 72 hours to process
    • Worker's compensation, automobile, or personal injury cases may also require some kind of  authorization prior to your exam and, if applicable, the name and address of the patient's attorney
    • Patients are responsible for determining their health insurance coverage limitations by contacting their insurance companies, and preparing for financial responsibilities
    • Patients must be prepared to pay for any co-pays, pre-payments, deductibles, balances not paid by insurance, and/or non-covered services
    • At the time of service patients will be asked to sign a Financial Waiver or Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) to acknowledge financial responsibility
    • Patients are strongly encouraged to work closely with their physician's office, imaging center or facility, and their health insurance to ensure that all pre-authorization, pre-certification, pre-determination, and/or RQI requirements are satisfied before the exam and that the Radiologist, imaging center, facility, and/or office is an in-network provider for their plan.
    • You can find your insurance contact information on the back of your ID card
  • Advanced Radiology accepts all health insurance plans and networks
    • We participate and are in network in most health insurance programs in the area; however Insurance plans, coverage, and network status do change frequently. We ask that you contact your insurance plan to verify this information prior to your exam.
    • Non-covered and out of network services will be the patients responsibility.
    • For your benefit we file insurance claims to all primary and secondary carriers.
    • As a courtesy to our patients we can file claims to liability carriers when the proper authorization is received. However, since there is no guarantee of payment, patients are required to make monthly payments until their account balance is paid.
    •  We welcome Workers Compensation claims. Please provide us with your claim information when you contact us.
  • Advanced Radiology is a Medicare Provider
    • Medicare requires that all exams have a supporting diagnosis to demonstrate that it is medically necessary. If your physician orders an exam for a diagnosis that DOES NOT meet Medicare Medical Necessity you will be asked to sign an Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN)
    • The ABN informs you in advance that Medicare is not likely to pay for the exam. You will have the option of proceeding with the exam and agreeing to be financially responsible. If you refuse the exam you will still be asked to sign the ABN indicating you have elected not to proceed
    • Medicare PPO's or MCO’s, also known as 'Medicare Replacement' plans can also require exam pre-authorization and an ABN
    • Medicare does not cover imaging services or tests ordered by a Chiropractor, including x-rays; Medicare only covers manual manipulation of the spine if medically necessary. Medicare patients will need to receive an order from their Primary Care Physician to ensure their insurance will cover their imaging exam, or will have to accept full financial responsibility.
